for each quality - when will we need to ascribe it to machines
and when will machines need to ascribe it to people

a child accepts names without assigning a referent confident that
they name something.  Having a definite referent in mind is an
advanced state of mind as is the idea that something named might
not have a referent.  To a child, a fictitious flying horse is
rather like a far away flying horse.
